Ninjago cake

Ninjago cake
We had my 8 year old’s birthday party this weekend
He wanted a Lego Ninjago Cake
He has been obsessed with Ninjago lately

So we looked at pictures
and he decided he wanted a cake of the monastery
My husband and I sat down and figured out how to design it

For the bottom
It is 2 layers
(but you only really need 1, but we had MANY people coming to the party!)
The bottom layer is brownie
and then greek yogurt chocolate cake on top of that!

My son wanted it yellow
Not sure why?
Just the color he chose
so we made it yellow with some food coloring

Once that was frosted
We used Sara Lee Pound Cake
to make the buildings
We decided on Pound cake
because we could cut it to the right size
and frost it
without it becoming “crumby”
and falling apart
like regular cake would
Pound cake is much denser and firm
It worked GREAT!

We cut the pound cakes to the right size
(we had 2 Sara Lee Pound Cakes)
and frosted them with my Chocolate Buttercream frosting
I then placed them on the cake
I used a few toothpicks in the bottom of the pound cakes
to make sure they would be secure

We used some Hershey chocolate bar
on the middle pound cake
for doors
We found a white chocolate bar
for the two side buildings
and my husband found the Japanese characters
for “5 + 3”
and “Happy Birthday”
and wrote them with writing gel
on the white chocolate

We used pretzel sticks on the edges
My son broke out his Lego Ninjago mini figures
to decorate the cake
and some swords for above the doors
My husband and son
created the top of the buildings
out of the millions of lego pieces we have laying around

To be honest
I really have no idea what this place is supposed to be
other than it looks like the cartoon/lego
but apparently we did a good job
because it was deemed
“AWESOME!!”
by all the little boys 🙂
