This is the BEST Chocolate Syrup recipe
My mom created it
and we use it all the time
On Brownie Ice Cream Sundaes
to Waffles
(it is sooooo good on waffles – trust me!)
The recipe below is actually a half batch
from the original recipe
We don’t usually need a full batch
as it just makes too much for us!
but feel free to double the below recipe
and make a full batch!
I will also tell you the 2 different ways
we go about making it
I make it one way
and my husband puts it together another
You chose which way is better
(*hint* it is mine! hahaha!)
They both work great though
Mmmm…
Waffles and Chocolate Syrup
is such a treat around here 🙂
Ingredients
- 1/2 stick (4TBSP) butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 Tbsp Flour
- 4 Tbsp Cocoa
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Directions:
My way: Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Add the flour, cocoa, and sugar to the butter and whisk/stir together -basically making a Roux. Slowly add in the milk (1/4 cup or so at a time) and thoroughly whisk into the sugar/butter roux after each addition. Once each addition is thoroughly mixed, add in more of the milk… and so on until all milk is added and incorporated. Bring just to a boil, add the vanilla, and you’re done!
Husbands: Melt the butter in a small sauce pan. While melting, combine the flour, cocoa, and sugar in a small bowl (see it makes an extra dish…. why my way must be better!). Add the milk to the butter in the saucepan. Then slowly add the sugar/cocoa/flour mixture to the butter and milk, one Tbsp at a time, whisking into the milk/butter after each addition. After all mixed in, bring just to a boil, add the vanilla, and you’re done!
There you go. Delicious Chocolate syrup that is a delicious addition to any dessert…. or waffles 🙂
