Homemade sloppy joes

Homemade sloppy joes

Homemade sloppy joes

I was never a fan of Sloppy Joes as a kid
The stuff from a can
(or a mix)
just doesn’t cut it in my book!
Then I came across this recipe
for Homemade Sloppy Joes.

It is delicious!
Now I enjoy Homemade sloppy joes
and these are SIMPLE to make
and really not much harder
than opening that can of “Man…”
Plus all of this stuff
is usually in my pantry
or refrigerator
(as is true for the majority of my recipes!)

I make this for guests
and they are always very surprised
at how delicious these are!
So re-invent how you think of Sloppy Joes
and try this recipe out!

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb hamburger, turkey burger, or chicken burger (I use chicken)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • 1 onion – chopped
  • Bell Pepper – chopped (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (or just regular vinegar)
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can (8oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • Water as needed
  • Hamburger buns

Directions:
Now the directions for the onion will change depending on your preference. If you want it cooked, then cook it with your hamburger. If you are me, and like the flavor of a red onion, I wait until the end, and add in a chopped red onion (I like the flavor and slight crunch). Totally a flavor and texture preference you can choose!

Cook your burger with onion (or wait until the end) and the bell pepper. Sprinkle with Montreal Steak Seasoning and the brown sugar. Once cooked add in the vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Then add in the tomato sauce and paste. Sometimes, I need to add a little water to get the paste all mixed in evenly. Add in some red onion now, if you waited. Once heated through, you’re done! Enjoy!
