OH.MY!
I have to say,
I am not a fan of Hot Dogs
I eat them like once or twice a year
But for the 4th of July
I had seen these Pretzel Dogs
and wanted to try them out
They were FREAKING
A.MAZE.ING!!!
Seriously,
They were so good
I am not sure I can eat a normal Hot Dog again!
I decided that adding cheese to the hot dogs
would make it better
because Soft Pretzels and Cheese just go together
So I decided to skip that step
and just buy Cheddarwursts instead of plain hot dogs
GOOD CALL!
They were seriously FANTASTIC!!
Just writing about them
makes me want to go make another batch
(I don’t have any more Cheddarwurst though *sigh*)
Seriously,
Give them a try and you’ll thank me
or not,
because it will totally ruin regular hot dogs for you 😉
Ingredients:
- Cheddatwursts (I used Hillshire Farms) or any Hot Dog you like (maybe add some cheese too!)
- Kosher Salt
- 1.5 cups warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp Kosher Salt
- 2 1/4 tsp Yeast (or 1 pkg)
- 4.5 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 10 cups of boiling water
- 1/2 cup baking soda (really, I just eyeballed it)
- 1 egg yolk, beaten
Directions:
Combine warm water, sugar, salt, and yeast in your mixing bowl. Allow to sit for 4-5 minutes. Once bubbly, Add the flour, and melted butter and mix together, using your dough hook on low until the dough is smooth ans pulls away from the sides (4-5 minutes). Let the dough rises for an hour
Heat oven to 450. Line a baking sheet with some foil. Bring your water and baking soda to a boil. Separate your dough – We did 12 Cheddarwursts, you could get more or less depending on how big your dogs are (I would say you could get up to 14-16 with this dough on regular hot dogs – our pretzel dough was pretty thick – YUM!). Make your dough into long ropes and wrap around your hot dogs. I used my hand to mash together the dough and make sure it completely covered the hot dog. Place each hot dog into the boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds, and remove using a slotted spoon. Place on your foil lined baking sheet.
Once each hot dog has been boiled, brush them all with the egg yolk and sprinkle with Kosher salt. Bake in the oven for 12-14 minutes
Enjoy! Seriously, I NEED to go buy some more Cheddarwursts and make more of these. It really is a necessity at this point… YUM!!! Pretzel Dogs are AMAZING!!! I took lots of pictures, because I was so in love with these delicious creations…
