We just ate this for dinner and I had to come up and blog it before I didn’t remember the recipe. I was soooo DELICIOUS!!!
My 9-year-old just ate 3 helpings of it. I wanted to keep eating more and more! I was just so good!! I will be on our normal dinner rotation from now on, it was a hit with the whole family! YUM! Plus it was EASY to make – an extra bonus.
Rotini, Penne, or any sturdier pasta would work great in the recipe. I used shells because that is what I could find in my pantry. Next time, I think I will try some cauliflower in the sauce (I just didn’t have any tonight)
Ingredients:
- 1 box of Pasta (14-16oz – Rotini, Shells, Penne, etc.) I used Whole Wheat Pasta
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 3 Tbsp Flour
- 1 cup Chicken Broth
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup cream (or 2 cups half and half, instead of the milk and cream)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Fresh cracked pepper
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese
- 2 cups Mozzarella (I used an Italian blend of cheeses)
- 14oz – 1lb of Sausage or Kielbasa (I used Turkey Kielbasa)
Directions:
Spray a 13×9 baking dish with cooking spray.
Put a large pot of water on to boil. Cook Pasta according to the box directions. Drain when done cooking and put back into the pot.
While pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet. Add in the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir in the flour. Slowly whisk in the chicken broth until incorporated and smooth. Then stir in the milk and cream (or half and half). Add in some salt, crack in some fresh pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer until the sauce is thickened – about 5 minutes or so. Stir in the Parmesan Cheese and 1 cup of the Mozzarella until the cheese is melted and smooth.
Cut the sausage and add into the sauce. Pour the sauce over the pasta and stir thoroughly. Pour the pasta into the baking dish. Top with the rest of the mozzarella cheese. Turn on your broiler and broil for 3-5 minutes, until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.
Eat and Enjoy! Try not to eat the whole pan in one sitting 🙂
