Homemade Bath Crayons

Homemade Bath Crayons

My kids love bath crayons. I remember my daughter going through so many of them. The biggest problem is that they are expensive. I saw on Pinterest that you can make your own. Of course! Why had I not thought of this before?!?!

The best part of making your own? It is sooooooo EASY! Seriously takes about 1 minute to make. Then you just wait for them to cool. The shapes, colors, and scents that you can do are seemingly endless!

What you’ll need:

Now these are seriously easy to make. I bought the Clear Gycerine Soap Base- 2lb. It is easy and cheaper to pick up on Amazon, but if you have a 40% off coupon for Michaels or Hobby Lobby, you may be able to pick it up cheaper.

I used small two blocks from the Gycerine Soap Base at a time. In a bowl (or measuring cup, like I used) microwave the soap for about 40 seconds. Watch the soap – it does not take long at all to melt. Then mix in a BUNCH of food coloring. When you think you have enough coloring, double it! Then you probably have enough – it takes ALOT for coloring! (the picture below is from my first attempt – you want even MORE color) My first attempt, I did not put nearly enough coloring in. Easy enough to fix though – simply re-heat and then add more color! Easy fix! If you want to add essential oils, now is the time to add it.

Once the color is added, simply pour into your chosen mold. I had purchased these Star Wars Silicone Ice Tray Set of 6 on Amazon, and figured they would work perfectly. My kids love everything Star Wars. Then simply let cool. It took mine about 20-40 minutes (depending on size). Put in the freezer, if you want them to cool sooner. Then just pop them out of the mold. Easy!

My boys wanted to get right in the tub to try them out when they were cooled and ready to go! Anything that gets them excited about bathing 🙂 Last night, I came home from a meeting, to my son using them to wash himself in the bath. They are a BIG hit!

Super easy, fast, and cheap to make. My Gycerine Soap Base- 2lb is going to last a VERY long time and make many crayons. Plus the shapes we can make are endless! My kids and I are all very excited about this fun to make craft, that also encourages them to get in the tub more often!
