Homemade White Bread

I’ve got several recipes we’ve tried in the last few months that I haven’t gotten around to writing up! Well, maybe I’ll catch up now that I have “downtime” with breastfeeding a newborn and now that preschool is done (no more driving back and forth)

I usually prefer to make my favorite wheat bread, but sometimes you just need a good white bread recipe! This one was REALLY good! Put some butter and honey on it and you have quite a treat! It would also work well as sandwich bread. Nothing like homemade bread for a sandwich – YUM!

I used the smaller of my double ovens to bake them. I was shocked when they grew so much that it got stuck around the upper heating element! If you look closely at the picture, you can see an indent in the loaf of bread. Ha! It didn’t affect the bread at least. Ok – I totally need to make these again because we just got some fresh local honey and I am thinking it will taste soooo good on this!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 TBSP Yeast
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1 TBSP salt
  • 7-8 cups flour

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl (preferably your KitchenAid mixer bowl), dissolve the yeast in the water and sugar. Let sit 5-10 minutes. Add the oil and salt. Slowly add in the flour while mixing with the hook attachment of your mixer. (or mix/knead by hand). Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, only slightly sticky and pulls away from the bowl. As it is kneaded, add flour until you reach the desired consistency.

Cover dough and allow to rise until doubled (around an hour, depending on the heat of your kitchen). Punch down the dough and divide into 2 loaves. Place in 2 9″ greased loaf pans. Cover and allow to rise until the top of the dough is an inch or two above the pan.

Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Remove from pans and place on a cooling rack.
