Summer Hike #2 – Alsea Falls

Hike #2 of the summer took us to Alsea Falls. I’ve wanted to go here for years, but we’ve never made the time until now!

Alsea Falls is right off the parking lot of the picnic area. About a 2-3 minute walk down to the falls from the parking lot. I had no idea it was so easy to get to.

The kids thought the falls were fantastic! They took off their shoes and waded in the cold water. #5 (the toddler) thought touching the falls was just awesome!

We let them explore and play in the water for quite awhile, as we were the only people around!

We then decided to hike around a bit. We headed back towards the parking lot and went across the bridge there towards another waterfall. On the way there, we passed another group who asked if we were going to the other waterfall. We said that was our goal, and they mentioned that they were unable to find it on the paths. We decided to keep going and we could just turn back eventually. That is the biggest problem with the county parks – the paths are often not well marked.

We did turn back before getting to the other falls in the park. We had 2 kids slip on the hills. We then got to a very steep part of the trail, and decided to not push our luck and turn back. Didn’t need any serious injury!

#5 also FINALLY decided to ride in the hiking backpack! I think he liked it! He was up high and could see things – hopefully, he’ll remember that next week!

On the way home, we stopped at a park that has a Train (and dinosaur bones) for the kids to play on. #5 was in HEAVEN! He was so excited to play on the “Choo choo!” Getting him to leave was nearly impossible. Pretty sure he wanted to live on the train…
