Silverwood Theme Park

We stopped at Silverwood Theme Park for a day on our way home from Glacier National Park. We figured the kids would enjoy a day at a theme park after going to so many National Parks.

We enjoyed our day at Silverwood – we were there open to close! While we had a great time and I thought it was worth the money for the day, there were definitely some pluses and minuses!

Pros:

  • Cost: The ticket prices were decent. The food prices were about what we would have paid outside the park – which was actually impressive. We bought 2 large pizzas for like $30 and it more than fed our family for lunch!
  • The Waterpark was included with admission. We didn’t take any pictures in there, but if it had been a warmer day, we would have spent more time there. It was great! I’m glad we went in for a little while though!
  • The place was really clean and well maintained.
  • They had cups with unlimited refills. We love it when parks have this and we make good use of those cups (we get a couple for the day)

Cons:

  • Height restrictions and No family rides. This is my BIGGEST complaint about almost EVERY Amusement Park. At Disney, almost every ride is a FAMILY ride. There are only a handful of height restrictions. Here (and most amusement parks) EVERY ride has a height restriction! The only ride we were able to ride as a family was the Train – which sucked. Not a good park for babies or toddlers. The bumper cars had a height restriction of 48″ – which is absurd and caused quite a few tears from kid #4 who was 1″ too short. I mean, the Incredicoaster has a height restriction of 48″ – and this was no roller coaster! (all other rides at Disney have even lower height restrictions!)
  • The Load/Unload time took FOREVER on some rides. They only had one employee at most rides. At the Scrambler, he wouldn’t let us unhook the pin ourselves to get out when the ride was over – we had to wait for him and we were like the last car he opened. I swear it took like 5 minutes waiting there – longer than the ride.
  • Most of the Kiddie Rides were in one area, instead of throughout the park. One of my favorite things about Hershey park is that they would mix the kiddie rides in with the Coasters and “bigger” rides. So the big kids could ride the “big kid” rides while the little ones would ride the kiddie rides. We could stay together in one part of the park and everyone could ride something and have fun!

We had a good day. The kids loved it. I really liked the waterpark too.

Would we go again? The kids would say yes. I would say no – or maybe if we were in the area again. I would enjoy doing more of the waterpark or maybe once kid #6 is bigger. I would not go out of my way to go there again, but if we were in the area again, maybe. However, if you’re in the area or have older children (check the height restrictions FIRST), it is an enjoyable way to spend a day!
