Our last “Christmas Light” event for the season was Zoo Lights. We are members at the Oregon Zoo, so Zoo Lights is included with our membership.
We try to go before the start time for Zoo Lights – several reasons for this:
1. Go early and see the animals.
2. Ability to find parking (this is a BIG reason. We left not long after 5:00 – the “start” time of zoo lights and the parking was already full)
3. Beat the crowds
We got there around 3:30 and all the lights were already on. So we got to see the animals and the lights! Plus, we got parking RIGHT next to the entrance – and there were plenty of spots when we got there. Unfortunately, one of our kids decided he wasn’t feeling well, so we left earlier than planned. However, we saw all the rest of the lights on our way out! As we were leaving, huge crowds were coming into the zoo – a good time to leave! We actually hadn’t been to Zoo Lights in a couple of years, and they’ve changed it up quite a bit, so it was a nice change of pace! Thankfully, with a membership, I didn’t feel bad cutting the trip short – we can go back again. And since I bought the membership in December – it covers 2 years of Zoo Lights!
I don’t think I’d recommend paying for Zoo Lights on its own. Seriously, for our family, it’s cheaper to get the membership! Tickets are rather expensive for the event – so I’d highly recommend a Zoo membership over paying to just go to zoo lights! (plus membership is tax-deductible!) I don’t think I’d ever pay for tickets just for zoo lights – I personally don’t think it worth the high cost they charge for the tickets. Totally worth the membership though!!! So TOTALLY go with membership – Zoo lights alone are probably worth the membership – otherwise, there are several other options for lights at a more affordable price for families.
