Craters of the Moon

The first stop on our trip this summer was to Craters of the Moon National Monument. It is located in the middle of nowhere Idaho and has very similar sites to those we saw at the Newberry Volcanic National Monument.

The entire park is very nice and well taken care of. They must have gotten some money because the roads, signs, paths, etc. are beautiful and in great shape!

At the park, you can climb hills and see inside small volcanoes. One of the volcanoes even had snow inside – in August!

They have a Junior Ranger program – which our kids think they have the best looking badge so far!

It was a great visit and we are glad we went. You can see most of it in half a day. You could spend an entire day and do more trails than we did. With kids though, it is a great stop for a few hours. Bring your lunch and snacks, as there is no place to eat for miles. Remember to gas up your car too!

Now that we’ve been, I doubt we will be back unless we are in the area again. It was great and well worth a visit once though!
