The Bonneville Dam

Finally! The last stop on our trip! This place is actually not far from home, but we’ve never been! After how lame The Dalles Dam was, my hopes were not too high for this place…

The Boneville Dam was awesome though! It was totally worth a stop – plus it was FREE! YAY! We know that is my favorite price. There was lots to see and do here. You can see the Fish on the ladder – which the kids really enjoyed. Learn all about the fish and the dam (I actually learned the difference between the wild fish and the ones from the hatcheries). There are several exhibits to see as well.

They also have a tour – which seemed similar to what we saw at the Hoover Dam (only FREE Here – had to pay for the Hoover Dam). Now normally, I think you have to have a tour/guide to go into the Powerhouse, but for some reason, when we were there, anyone could go in. They were still monitoring it and had someone there to check you in, but anyone could go in. So if this is somthing you’d like to see, check to see if you need a tour first.

There are places to get a good view of the fish ladders outside and also of the waters flowing through the dam. We actually really enjoyed our visit here and would love to go back sometime!

Then down the road is the Fish Hatchery. That is well worth a stop too! You can see the fish up close and feed them too. They also had a GIANT sturgeon you could see in one of the ponds as well.

If you’re headed to Multnomah Falls or just want somthing to check out not far from Portland, the Bonneville Dam is well worth a visit!
